Autoimmune Encephalitis

Autoimmune Encephalitis refers to a category of illnesses that are caused by exposure to a virus or bacteria or associated with cancer. The body's immune system mistakenly attacks cells in the brain causing a wide range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms. Serious permanent damage or death may result. The earlier and more aggressive the treatment for Autoimmune Encephalitis, the better the outcome.

Postinfectious Autoimmune Encephalopathy

Postinfectious Autoimmune Encephalopathy refers to a condition in which an infection triggers an abnormal immune attack on brain cells which causes sudden changes in neurologic function, mood and behavior. PAE includes disorders such as PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infection).
